This is Kolvör or, to properly name her Kolvör frá Neðra-Ási. Born in 1993, she was assessed in Iceland as a five year old and got 7.93 for confirmation and 7.66 ridden – after that she started her career as a brood mare and, to date, has had seven foals.
One of these foals is our own Ára who sneaked into the UK in utero – her sire is Glymur frá Innri-Skeljabrekku (IS2001135613). Of her other offspring the best is Hugur frá Hemlu – a first prize stallion with overall marks of 8.17 sired by Orri frá Þúfu.
We imported Kolvör from Iceland in November 2008 having bought her through Magnus at Úrvalshestar, she was in foal and successfully delivered Ára on 2nd July 2009.
The current plan is to put her back in foal in 2011 – that was the plan. We’ve decided not to cover any mares this year as, hopefully, we’ll have five youngsters aged two or less by this summer and that’s enough to be getting on with. So I’m riding Kolvör and she is gradually getting fitter although still lacking muscle in her back and hind quarters – hopefully as she gains more fitness (after all she’s had a few years of doing nothing) then we’ll see her gaits improving – trot is probably the least well established at the moment and we have yet to try cornering in trot on the track – I think it may well end up as tölt
Kolvör Retires
By Graeme
It’s early Autumn now in South Devon and it’s time to get the two mare with foals at foot back to riding. The net result of this (and the arrival of NTBO) is that Kolvör gets to go back to being a brood mare after a ten month interruption – needless to say she is delighted with the prospect of not being ridden by FatBoy as her last weekend of riding involved trolling over Dartmoor and Lustleigh Cleave.
Trot 101 aka Royaume-Uni Nul Points
By Graeme
Well, sure enough, Yours Truly and the Galloping Granny once again lived up to his previous performances (see Snuggur) and, together, they achieved the magnificent score of zero (yup - nada, صِفْر, zilch, אפס, buggerawl, शून्य, notalot) for trot at the Edda Hestar Easter Show 2010. Whilst this was not a great surprise to the discerning crowd it does give me a good baseline to improve from.
Kolvör says it’s not her fault – why trot when you can tölt?

Well it would appear that Glymur frá Innri-Skeljabrekku is a very clever horse – like Helgi he has his very own blog and you can check it out here:
