Snugga
Meet Snugga – a red dun bay, bay dun red, dun red bay, den rad bed, OK – so she’s orangey coloured – filly. Snugga is, of course, the offspring of Billy No Mates, Bob Marley – yes, the wild oats sown by Snuggur have come home to roost and bug dad. Apart from the similarity in names (although the two meanings are quite different) they are alike in the height and haircut departments – Snugga as a two year old was the height of her father.
So, how did I end up with Snuggur’s mini-me?
In 2005 we visited Mic & Maria at Solva Icelandics and, as you do, took a turn around the fields to check out the neddies – in with the youngsters we saw a fine, tall filly, a bit on the shy side – Snugga. At Easter 2006 there was a Robert Course at Edda Hestar, SWMBO went along with Toots Tallulah and, in the course of a long evening, lubricated with beacoup ginger liqueur, a deal was struck. Meanwhile, a hundred and twenty miles away I was whooping it up with a solitary mug of cocoa after a hard days lazing unawares that I was about to get a surprise present a little different from the usual carpet slippers.
May 2006 we collected Snugga and flung her to the tender mercies of the others – after a few days of squealing, biting, scratching, pulling of pigtails and kicking, the girls had all sorted themselves out and Snugga was teamed up with Tinna the Thug and the twinning of the terrible twos began – a few months knocking about with Tinna will take the shyness out of anything.
By early 2009 Snugga had grown up to be a tall, very well conformed lady. She was riding out nicely with the other horses and, in May, we had a visit from Ali who rode Snugga and liked her so much that, after borrowing her again on a Magnus Larusson course in the autumn, took her off to live in The Far North.
